Physical Activity

Our school provides twice daily playground breaks for all classes. Children are allowed to run during these breaks. Pupils have access to sports equipment during breaks.

Our school trains pupils as playground leaders to encourage activity during break time.

All staff use the signposted Active School Walkway around the school, to promote physical activity and for cross curricular active learning. Every class completed two or more Walkway learning challenges this year. Our Walkway is also used for our Annual Witch Walk at Halloween and Character Walk for World Book Day.

All classes complete the 4 week Active Break Everyday challenge each year in November and December.

All classes complete the Run Around Ireland /Europe challenge . This is a daily whole school initiative over a 4 week period in March and April.

All classes complete an extended classroom bases physical activity break on wet days, some of the activities include Cosmic Yoga, Go Noodle, Bizzy breaks, among others.

Our school incorporates Physical Activity into annual calendar events during the year, such as our Table Tennis Takeover to celebrate The European Week of Sport, Halloween Witch Walk and Whole School Spooky Dance , Santa Dash, Wellbeing Week, St Patrick’s Day Céilí Mór and Easter Egg Hunt.

Our school organises Feelgood Friday activity initiatives every Friday, eg. Boogie Breaks.

Each class teacher and his/her class have agreed a set of actions to decrease sedentary time. These actions are posted on each classes' Active Class Poster.

All Active School Flag activities are planned to ensure they are accessible to all.
