Active Schools Week

Our school organizes an Active School Week each year, usually in June. It is a well planned action-packed programme which is accessible to all.

Our Active Schools' Committee is involved in planning the activities and suggestions are welcome from pupils and parents.

During Active School Week staff wear sportswear and physical activities replace written homework. Pupil uniform is a tracksuit so they are always ready to go! Local clubs and physical providers give taster sessions and their support is always wonderful and greatly appreciated.

Every class teacher uses the Active School Walkway to promote physical activity in a cross curricular way during Active School Week.

We also make use of our local walking routes such as Ballon Historical Trail and Ballon Tree Trail during ASW.

The school organizes a now legendary annual teachers v pupils Rounder Match during Active Schools Week . A Rounders League is organised prior to this by Ms Úna Murphy and the winning team play a staff team in an enthralling final. Referee support is provided by members of our local Cuchulainn Rounders Club for which we are very grateful. Competition is strong every year and a great afternoon’s entertainment is had by both spectators and teams!

None of this would be possible without our hardworking Active School Committee students who over the years have put in huge effort to make our week the success it is. Testament to this all unanimously agree ASW is the highlight of their year.
